Edge Computing Takes the Cloud Back to the Future


With the increase in demand and development of smart gadgets, the data transfer speed is the most significant challenge for IT companies. The continuous transmission of unstructured data in vast quantity slows down the response speed, and functioning of the devices used to carry those data. The transmission line for data transfer become blocked due to massive traffic from users and so are some information. Edge computing eliminates the potential failure areas by attaching physical resources such as connecting mass flow meter and pumps to an automated programmable logic controller. These PACs collects, process and analyse information from these assets while executing the main admin programs. These automated controllers use the power of edge computing to identify which data should be sent back to the cloud for analysis and which one will be stored locally. One can say,  in edge computing intelligence is adopted at the network edge which connects the IoT physical resources and produces data.

The major cloud vendors have clearly spotted the demand for the increased demand and upcoming business opportunities from the data generated near edge sources. Competition in today’s market such as in price and emerging diverse requirements lead cloud providers to expand their business operations towards the IoT infrastructure platforms, fog computing and edge computing.

Depending upon the users need like architecture, functioning, development tools etc., cloud service providers have been migrating to the edge, marking their valuable presence in the cloud market.
